Next Level Flag Football at Archbishop Mitty High School will be entering its third season for 2018!  Come join Site Director Keith Burns and his Archbishop Mitty Student Athletes for an exciting season of flag football! Coach Burns brings years of coaching experience, boundless passion and energy to the Next Level Flag football program at Archbishop Mitty. NL Flag is a proven Bay Area Youth Sports League and we are thrilled to team up with Archbishop Mitty to bring our unique "Kid's First" approach to the San Jose Area. General Overview of League Operations:

  1. NL Flag operations from early January through mid-March with a 10-week season schedule (1 scrimmage, 7 regular season games, 2 playoff games).
  2. Games are on Sundays with exceptions for Super Bowl Sunday (sites vary based on field availability, check the schedule below).
  3. Practices and Games are on the same day - parents need only allocate a 2-hour window of availability for their child's involvement.  Practice hours take place immediately prior to a participant's scheduled game time.
  4. Per NL Flag rules, equal playing time is governed on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball and shall be administered by the Student Head Coach/Mentor and Parent Volunteer(s).
  5. Each game is played 5 versus 5 in a non-contact environment.  Field length is 40-yard long field - up to 4 games operate simultaneously on the same regulation football field.
  6. Parent volunteers are to ASSIST our Student Athlete Head Coach/Mentors and ENABLE them to at as Head Coaches of their respective teams.
  7. Teams are comprised of 10 players maximum.
  8. League Fees: $275 - fees are inclusive of a participant's custom jersey, shorts, use of flags, and other offerings.
  9. Uniform Delivery - fees for home delivery of a participant's uniform are included in the League Fees.  NL will again be SHIPPING UNIFORMS DIRECT TO HOME this season!  Delivery will occur via USPS and a valid USPS delivery location is required. 
  10. NL 7th/8th Passing League implements a traditional High School/NCAA 7-on-7 environment - expansion from 5-on-5 environment used from K - 6th divisions.

Site Logistics & Schedule:

All games located at Archbishop Mitty's new state of the art football facility on campus. All scheduled games will be played unless canceled due to extreme weather and/or other circumstances making gameplay unsafe or hazardous. Precaution will be taken for the younger age groups.

2nd Grade Division - Practice: 9:00 am/Game: 10:00 am
3rd Grade Division - Practice: 10:00 am/Game: 11:00 am
4th Grade Division - Practice: 10:00 am/Game: 11:00 am
5th Grade Division - Practice: 11:00 am/Game: 12:00 pm
6th/7th Grade Division - Practice: 11:00 pm/Game: 12:00 pm

Registration Status

Registration for the 2018 Next Level Flag Football season will open on April 1st for Priority Registration.  Registration will open on April 15th at 12:00 noon for the general public. Please remember to register early as we can not hold spaces due to limited space.


Site Director Bio: Keith Burns - Head Football Coach @ Archbishop Mitty

Keith Burns is entering his third year as the Head Football Coach of Archbishop Mitty High School after a 30-year career in college and NFL football, and a 4-year playing career at the University of Arkansas where he was a defensive captain.  Burns has served as a head coach, defensive coordinator, defensive backs coach, Special Teams coordinator in college football, as well as a special teams assistant in the NFL.  Some of his stops include Arkansas, Rice , USC, Tulsa, San Jose State, Kansas State, Ole Miss, and the Oakland Raiders.   His career highlights include being named a 1998 Broyles Award Finalist for the best assistant coach in college football, and being inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame.  Coach Burns is known as one of the best defensive backs coach in all of football, and a master motivator who is hired to speak for corporations on a regular basis.  Keith has played for, and worked with, some of the top names in football including Lou Holtz, Bill Snyder, John Robinson, Dick Tomey, Monte Kiffin, Houston Nutt, Dennis Allen, Frank Broyles, Rod Marinelli, Mike Riley, Hue Jackson, and many many more.  Most importantly, Keith is a huge family man.  Him and wife Yvonne, have three sons, KC, Tanner, and Davis.
